BOATHOUSE*

Located on a triangular site along the Platte River, The Boathouse offered a unique design challenge. The client, Grand America, requested that the program, 10,000sf of office, make the most of the views on the site, while respecting its close proximity to the adjacent highway. The design parti was a simple bar with which we carved and extended elements from. When a move was created, the insides are revealed, a blend of orange cement panel and glazing system(s). The building was anchored by a concrete block stair tower at one end and an open air stair on the other. A glass box on the north side advertised the building and corresponded to lobby program. The south glazing offers views of the river below and the Denver skyline. The opaque panels which push outwards to the north serve as a buffered elevation to the highway.

The Boathouse won an AIA Design Merit Award as well as a Denver Mayors Award in 2016.
